Take a weekend to relax in the great outdoors, antique shops and theatres of the Central New York Region while the rest of the world scampers around the mall in a mad holiday dash. Get back to what the holidays are really all about – spending quality time with the ones you love.

As the white stuff starts to fall, pack up the family for a trip to the Val Bialas Sports Center in Oneida County, which offers night skiing and a quaint ski chalet complete with snack bar and double-sided fireplace to beat frostbite. For the downhill ski lovers in your family, there are five trails at different degrees of difficulty, and for those who prefer tobogganing, a sledding hill. Or, ski for free on one of the largest groomed cross-country systems in the east (50km of trails!), the Black River Environment Improvement Association (B.R.E.I.A.) between the Adirondacks and the Tug Hill Plateau. |

If you still have a couple people to cross off your holiday shopping list, try a one-stop shop that isn’t the mall and offers one-of-a-kind holiday gifts in Herkimer County. Visit Little Falls Antique Center, located in Canal Place along the Erie Canal, the same building as The Shops at 25 West, a unique venue with a little bit of everything under one roof. Decorative arts, jewelry, kitchen accessories, clothing, beauty products and home furnishings are just some of the wide variety of treats offered at this historic site.

Plan a romantic evening around a show at the Oneonta Theatre in Otsego County. With its various events and musical and theatrical performances, the theatre has been "showing Oneonta a good time since 1897." While you’re in town, stop by the Fenimore Art Museum, one of the nation's premier art institutions and home to an exceptionally rich collection of American folk art and American Indian art. |
