Did You Know?

Next time you’re leaf peeping and pondering the mystery behind the stunning colors, keep this in mind. Chlorophyll's green color dominates and masks out the colors of any other pigments that may be present in leaves during the growing season. But, during fall, as chlorophyll levels dwindle, other pigments take hold. The reds and purples come from the presence of anthocyanin pigments (found in blueberries, cherries and strawberries) while the yellows, browns and oranges come from carotenoids (found in carrots, corn and daffodils).
