St. Patrick's Day Parade
Old Forge‚ NY
5pm down Main Street in Old Forge. This is a "don't miss" event! This is the best (and only) Irish Parade in the Adirondacks. Creativity is always the main theme of this parade. Along with the usual participants, many groups are secretly making costumes and floats that will be a surprise for this year's parade. Individuals now try to outdo their prior year's costumes or floats. Parade favorites return year after year. Local pickups with snowplows will entertain while in formation, under the name Synchronized Snowplows. The Old Forge Redheads group will be there, as will the Old Forge Irish Setters Club (which still has many dogs, but no Irish Setters). The Precision Shopping Carts will again be weaving their formations up Main Street, in spite of the poor physical conditioning of the pushers! After the parade, everyone is welcome at The Old Forge Fire Hall to sample Irish Stews that are made by local chefs, and are judged for Best Irish Stew by the public. Soda bread and green beverages are also offered to everyone free of charge.

The Dolgeville Violet Festival
Dolgeville‚ NY 13329
The Dolgeville Violet Festival is not just a one time event during the summer, but a year round effort by the residents of Dolgeville. The Violet Festival preserves the historical aspects of the Village of Dolgeville through the use of innovative, artistic, and educational displays throughout the year. There is an emphasis on the communities' rich horticultural history, which culminates with the annual Dolgeville Violet Festival the 2nd Friday, Saturday and Sunday of June each year. The Festival draws more than 75 vendors, 80 organizations that participate in the parade, and over 10,000 people to the Village during the three-day event. Violet Festival Committee meetings are held the second Wednesday of each month at the Dolgeville Fire House. Anyone interested in volunteering is encouraged to attend.

The Great American Irish Festival
Herkimer County Fairgrounds
198 Cemetery Street
Frankfort‚ NY 13340
Great American Irish Festival, Inc., was established to be the primary fundraising arm for the Irish Cultural Center of the Mohawk Valley. The festival organization has as its underlying purpose the furtherance of an appreciation and understanding of Irish/Celtic music, culture and history. While the GAIF itself has been an unqualified success, it is only a means to an end. The ultimate goal of the corporation, given the rich Irish heritage in Central New York, is to establish and maintain a state of the art cultural center that will be regional in scope, exploring the history and importance of the Irish in Central New York. This facility will provide a place where the Irish culture can continue to thrive and serve as a permanent meeting site for the local chapters of various Celtic/Irish based organizations, including:the Ancient Order of the Hibernians, the Ladies of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, and the Utica St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee (which was recently assumed by GAIF, Inc.). It is also hoped that the Center will eventually provide a base for anyone in the community interested in furthering their understanding of Irish culture, history, dance, language, etc. through study and research, including such interests as genealogy. The corporation’s purpose is solely for charitable and educational purposes.
